Tips from the Makeup Gal

My Personal Skin Care Regimen

Over the past few months several people have emailed me or written me through my Facebook page and asked about various products that I use myself such as skin care, hair care, makeup, fragrance, self-tanning, and even teeth whitening. The next few articles will be devoted to my personal products that are currently in usage and are favorites. Some will be revealed that are “must-haves” and some are switched every so often. When an article is written on a certain subject, I like to make sure I’ve used it or that someone else has who can verify its productivity.

For the past 4 years I’ve been an Arbonne skin care devotee. I love their ReNutrimen C line of products. If you join for the year, an extra 25% is taken off the product. I do not sell Arbonne but, all the people I’ve turned on to it still use it and LOVE it. For the amount of products you receive, the price is comparable to the amount of products you’d receive with Clinique or Olay Regenerist. However, with that being said, I never like to continuously use the same product all the time so this is what I’ll do. I’ll use up the Arbonne products and switch to different products until they are gone and then go back to the Arbonne line. Call me crazy, but I don’t want my skin to become immune to Arbonne like my lips have to Chapstick and I’ve read many articles attributed as to how this can happen with different products regarding skin care and hair care. It could be compared with taking certain medications over a period of time. I can tell when I go back to the Arbonne that in the first week my skin will get a couple of whiteheads, which never happened before in my lifetime. This tells me the product is working and bringing out the impurities and toxins in my skin. Some people will discontinue use when this happens but, it clears up after a week or a few days and then skin will be glowing. (contact Arbonne representative)

When the Arbonne products are not in use, I like to use St. Ives “Olive” cleanser and scrub in the winter months because it’s very hydrating to the skin especially here in the mid-Atlantic climate. It’s also very affordable and can be purchased at most drugstores. “Clarin’s Alpine Herb Cleanser” is another extremely emollient product for dryer dehydrated skin. I like to be outdoors quite a bit during the winter such as walking and riding my scooter so those things can be very drying to the skin. Clarin’s “Lotus” and “Blue Orchid” oil are good for the face in these situations. Lotus is recommended for regular/combination skin and Blue Orchid is better suited for more dehydrated/drier skin. clarins.com or fine department stores

Something I like to pick up when I go to Chinatown in New York but, can be ordered online too (it’s just a bit cheaper in Chinatown) is “Ly-Na Silk Cream”. I’ll use this on the face and neck once or twice a week. It’s usually $4 or $5 and at one time could be purchased at drugstore.com. Another oldie but goody that my Grandmother used when I was younger is “Porcelana Fade Cream”. This can be applied on the face or the body. Usually during the summer months “Oil of Olay” moisturizer with spf or Neutrogena moisturizer with SPF is always used but, this summer a new product has come out by Clarin’s that has an SPF of 40 which I’m going to try. I’ll be sure to let everyone know how it works.

The next few weeks will be focused on my personal use/favorite products. I’ve already received a couple of emails regarding your own and I’ll be reviewing them in a later article. Please write me with some of your favorite products so they can also be highlighted in a later issue.
