Things I Don’t Prefer
In the last article the focus was on my personal skin care regime and consisted of products in the cleansers, creams line. Soon we’ll get to primers and the “best” foundations but, I’d like to take this opportunity to appreciate the things I don’t ever see myself participating in. I can never say never but, some of you may feel the same way and others may not. I’d still like to get feedback on your likes and dislikes on products you can and absolutely cannot live without. Some of these don’t only focus around beauty and products but go outside the lines into other territories. There are no boundaries when it comes to aversions so here goes. Some of these may even be a bit comical.
1. Will not wear Crocs. These are some of the most ridiculous looking things since “jelly” shoes and I don’t see how a rubber shoe can possibly be comfortable but, the looks alone deter me.
2. Won’t wear perfumes named after celebrities. I’ve received samples of most all the new celebrity perfumes. You know the ones. I can barely differentiate one from the other and they are not long-wearing. They seem to be mass produced and geared toward a very “young” clientele. If you’re looking for a quality perfume, go the extra mile and spend the extra buck on something that is timeless and classic, yet mysterious and different. Create your own signature scent, not Brittany’s or Hillary’s or Jessica’s or Paris’s. If you’re looking for something newer yet different, try “Eclat de Orangier et Libre” at luckyscent.com. You’ll have many to choose from in this line or try Bond #9 New York. Once again, wide variety and many unisex fragrances to share.
3. Will not wear a slick gloss over bright red lipstick. This brings back horror pictures from magazines from the 70’s with women in heavy blue eyeshadow complete with black eyeliner and this glossy red lip.
4. Probably won’t ever have bleached blond hair again. It was fine for one month and short enough to do it but, it really washed me out. Now strawberry blond and platinum are completely different venues. I went strawberry blonde for two years and loved it. Naturally, my hair is dark brown. If it ever gets grey enough to the point of total greyness, I’ll consider platinum.
5. Won’t wear long dangly earrings. These are just not for me because I’ve always had the fear of them being ripped out of my ears. Big chunky baubles are much more fun.
6. Will not lie out in the sun for 4 hours at a time like in my teens. Use sunscreen everyday with at least an spf of 15 or higher. I’ve never been in a tanning bed in my life. I loved the deep bronze color I could get, and it was deep, but it’s just not worth the toll it takes on the skin.
7. Will not ever smoke. Nasty, nasty, nasty, habit.
8. Don’t ever won’t to wear full boots over bluejeans. My calves are too big and I’m too short in stature. For this look to have the effect it should project, the person should at least be 5’9” and rail thin. Otherwise, the look just shortens a person.
9. Don’t see myself wearing the mini-skirt at least not now. A mini for me would have to at least be right at mid-thigh, nothing any higher.
10. No shirts I can’t wear without a bra unless it’s to bed.
11. Will never, ever, grow my fingernails long. This is a fact. After playing drums for so many years, it just never worked for me and still doesn’t. It always seems so unclean. I’ll cut my nails down until there’s literally nothing left to cut.
12. Don’t like wearing clothes with designer emblems, especially on shirts. This has always annoyed me. I used to pull the Izod labels off my shirts when Mom got them. These companies are not paying me so why should I go around advertising for them. Plus, what is in a name if the quality is not there. I’ve been wearing some of my clothes for over 15 years or more and they still hold up as good as new. Invest in a good item and it will last and make sure it is classic and not trendy so it will make it through several changes of styles.
13. And for lucky #13 I try to buy goods whether it be food or clothing made in the U.S.A. This is a rare commodity. Try finding clothing, or anything for that matter made in America. Once I bought 3 very patriotic shirts just because they were all made in the U.S.A. and I intend to get several years wear from them. I was totally taken off guard because they were made in America so now when I wear them I feel just a little bit prouder.
